We brought together the visual memory of a city
Erzurum in Memories is a book and exhibition project that brings together engravings, drawings and historical photographs from different periods of the city’s history.
Spanning 600 years of Erzurum’s visual memory, the project documents a broad historical record—from architecture and everyday life to public spaces, cultural life, wars and social transformation—preserving it for future generations.
Six centuries of urban memory in a single book
Visual materials drawn from different periods and sources were not treated simply as a chronological archive. Engravings, drawings and historical photographs were brought together through an editorial structure that makes it possible to read Erzurum’s changing physical and social landscape as a whole.
We brought together the visual traces of a city across centuries in a shared urban memory.
Our Role
Research and Compilation: Researching, selecting and bringing together visual materials from different periods and sources.
Editorial Structure: Transforming the visual archive into a coherent publication structured around historical continuity and thematic integrity.
Publication Design and Production: Managing the book’s visual language, page design system and production process.
Exhibition Production: Adapting the selection from the book for exhibition and presenting the images in a distinct spatial experience.
From archive to book, from book to exhibition
Visual materials gathered from different periods and sources were organised within a coherent editorial framework and transformed into the Erzurum in Memories book. The project extended beyond the publication itself, taking shape as a cultural project in which selected works were also presented in an exhibition.
We brought together Erzurum’s traces preserved in engravings, photographs and memories, giving them lasting form through a book and exhibition.
Published in 2014, the work was compiled by Fikret Öztürk and Ahmet Çolak, with production undertaken by Tablet İletişim. The publication was issued by the Erzurum Governorship Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism.
