International Istanbul Printmaking Activities

An international printmaking gathering in Istanbul

Engravist – International Istanbul Printmaking Activities was an international art project that brought printmaking artists, academics and diverse production practices together in Istanbul.

Held within the academic environment of Yıldız Technical University Faculty of Art and Design and led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lütfü Kaplanoğlu, the event took place from 28 February to 4 March 2016. Tablet İletişim undertook the organisation and implementation of the project.

Reinterpreting a city through printmaking

The programme featured an international printmaking workshop, exhibition and academic symposium. Artists and academics from Türkiye, the Balkans and other countries came together in Istanbul.

While artists created new print works inspired by Istanbul, the symposium explored the city’s engraving tradition, everyday life and visual memory from different academic perspectives.

Images of Istanbul stretching from Galata to Hagia Sophia, from the Golden Horn to Kuzguncuk, were transformed into a new printmaking memory through the interpretations of different artists.

Our Role

Event Coordination: Coordination of the workshop, exhibition and symposium programmes.
Communication Materials: Production of the event’s visual and printed communication materials and management of related event requirements.
Publishing: Production of the event publications and coordination of the publishing process.

From symposium to workshop, from workshop to exhibition

Engravist was conceived not simply as an event where works were exhibited, but as an international art project bringing production, academic exchange and exhibition together within a single process.

Works created during the workshops met audiences through the exhibition, while the symposium opened an academic space for both historical and contemporary discussions on printmaking.

We created a shared platform for production and exchange that reinterpreted Istanbul through the print works of artists from different countries.
